Building a networking profile is great because it opens you up to the world of networking. Whilst this is fabulous news, it can be hard creating a profile from scratch and not knowing what to say; this article is here to give you some pointers.
- Photo
You must have a photo on your profile; you will find that a lot more people interact with accounts that have photos instead of the greyed-out blur. When deciding on a photo for your profile, you must choose the right one—no photos where you are clearly drunk or intoxicated or out having fun with friends. Your photo should be of just you alone and should ideally be a headshot. You should upload a clear photo of yourself to see only your head and you are looking professional. People will interact with other people who look professional as the other person appears to conduct themselves professionally. People want to connect and create mutually beneficial relationships with people that will benefit them; your photo should be professional for this reason.
- Profile
When writing your “about me” section, you must highlight your skills, knowledge, and qualifications, effectively like a resume. Your profile section should be considerably shorter than a resume and very clear and concise so that people don’t get bored and scroll on. When creating your “about me” section, if you are worried about not having enough experience, fill the space with where you want to go, where you want to be. People are far more likely to interact with accounts where people can clearly state their goals and dreams than an arrogant profile that basically says, “I’m too good for this.”
- Experience
It is essential to include your academic and work performance milestones, but keep this section short. People are often sold on more characteristics than simply what you got in your degree; people want to interact with interesting go-getters. Remember that your experiences are more than just qualifications; many things in a person’s life give them various experiences that are simply sitting in a classroom could never give them. It is important to remember this when writing your skills down; people look for more than the generic skills that everybody lists. Using your experience in life and utilizing the skills you have acquired by carefully including them in your profile will prove very beneficial to you.
- Personalisation
When you have completed your profile and start interacting with people, you don’t simply send everybody the same generic messages. It is very apparent when a person has sent you a generalized message sent to everybody, which can immediately discourage the person from interacting back. Read people’s profiles and learn about them before interacting; your hard work and effort won’t go unnoticed.
