Is Remote Working the Future?

Share

Since the recent global pandemic started, there have been many people remote working because of Covid-19 and economic reasons. This has proven that there are many benefits to remote working and has led people to wonder if this is the future for businesses.

  1. Leniency

Before the pandemic, employers were far less likely to allow you to work from home; the thought of people working from home was associated with low productivity and laziness. This has now changed due to lots of people working from home during the pandemic. Employers have seen that remote work is productive and so are a lot more flexible and lenient regarding remote work as they have seen the evidence that it works.

Due to the pandemic, employers provided staff members with the equipment they needed to work from home effectively; this equipment is still working and can still be put to use.

  1. Benefits

Employers have realized that remote work helps to keep down overhead and utility costs; this is a great advantage to them and means that in the future, they can keep costs down by asking a staff member to continue to remote work.

  1. Urbanization

Usually, there is a large boom of people moving to big cities to find higher-paying jobs; however, since the start of the pandemic, there has been a systematic reversal of this with more people moving to smaller towns and cities. The theory is that instead of creating huge sky-scraper business buildings that pollute and cause ecological damage, they create a nice town for people to live in instead. This means that people can afford very nice houses in quieter areas and bring their own jobs. This theory has been proven to be exactly what is happening now, and lots of people are intentionally searching for remote work instead of going and commuting to an office every day. People are making well-informed decisions based on both their personal needs and the needs of the environment.

  1. Resilience

Through lockdown, many people have had to “think on their toes” a little more with remote working; instead of walking to the next room and asking somebody a question, you have to email them instead. This makes it a little tricky to get an answer to your question immediately as it may take the other person time to respond. With this in mind, many employees have had to take more risks and figure things out for themselves. This has actually made employees more productive. Employees who are remote working have been proven to work more efficiently and productively when working remotely or working from home. Companies can see the clear difference that remote working has had on both the standard and the speed of work completed by their employees during the pandemic, and much to everybody’s surprise, these have both increased.
